OH HI!!! WELCOME TO THE STP BLOG! I'M SARA AND I AM WEDDING AND PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHER BASED IN UPSTATE SC. GRAB A SWEET TEA AND ENJOY YOUR VISIT !
It is Father’s Day weekend!!!! I hope you all enjoy spending this weekend with your dad. This Father’s Day is a big one for me. A month from Sunday my dad is getting on a plane and moving to Africa to father a whole bunch of cute orphans. I am crazy proud of my dad for this decision and many others.
Wedding days are about celebrating two people who have fallen in love and are committing their lives to each other. TRUE. However, it is also a day to honor and celebrate the people who have gotten you to this point. Today, I am going to share with you 5 ways to honor your father on your wedding day.
1. First look with Dad
It is a huge trend in wedding photography now to have a first look with your husband or wife on your wedding day. It gets the jitters out and allows you to get some amazing photos before your ceremony. The photographer is able to get a lot closer to the groom’s face to capture his reaction when you do a first look. A great way to honor your dad is to do a first look with him. It is a special time to reveal yourself as a bride to the man who has been dreaming about this day since you were born. I love when brides decide to do a special reveal with their dad. It makes dad feel special and also normally the bride is excited to see dad’s reaction as well.
2. Photos with Your Dad
Be sure to make time to have photos of yourself and each parent individually. It is nice to have a photo to put up on Dad’s birthday and Father’s Day on Facebook or Instagram from a day that is so significant…and that you both looked amazing! Here is a shot of me with my dad on my wedding day. Man, we look great!
3. Photos with a Message to Your Dad
Thinking about future Father’s Day or Birthday gifts on your wedding day? Of course! A photo with a message to your dad that you can frame and give to him is really thoughtful. Dad’s love to put these photos on their desks too.
4. Father Daughter Dance
The Father Daughter dance is a perfect time to honor your dad. Depending on your style, relationship, and personalities; you can make the song really unique to you. Some father-daughter dances are just sweet and sentimental, some are funny and choreographed, and some are filled with surprises. A sweet option is to do a voiceover recording during the song telling your dad just how amazing he is and how thankful you are for him. There are lots of ways to make this moment meaningful.
5. Thanking Your Dad at Your Reception
I have seen this quite a bit in the past year or so. Couples taking the microphone at their reception to thank their guest for coming as well as say a special word to those who have impacted them the most. This is a great time to tell dad thank you for being the best…and for paying for the party!
As you plan your wedding day, take time to think about the ways you can honor the people you love most.
Also, enjoy this Father’s Day. Make sure your first main man knows you love him!
