OUR ENGAGEMENT STORY

Engagement Photo Shoot:  On 2.20.2016, Natraj asked me to marry him! Here are some pictures that Saurabh captured for us. The short story is he asked me to marry him at Pretty Place with the prettiest view. If you’re interested in all the details, read on!

We had made plans to go to Asheville on Saturday night with Natraj’s roommates and a few other friends. Asheville is the place where we’ve explored, listened to great music, chowed down on A-MAZING Indian food, and spent most of our anniversaries. We call Asheville our town.

I wasn’t feeling great that day, so as soon as we got in the car I fell asleep in the back seat (Hence the crazy hair and messy makeup!).  Natraj and Saurabh woke me up when we arrived at Pretty Place (I had tried to bring Natraj there before but there was a wedding going on). We got out and walked into the open chapel to see the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. I had no idea we were going there, but I’m always glad to take in that view.

Saurabh had his camera and started taking pictures of the scenery. I was kicking myself for not bringing mine. Natraj and I were standing at the edge and he put his arm around me and hugged me real tight. He turned and looked me in the eyes.  I noticed Saurabh take a picture of us from the side. My heart started RACING! I got so excited that I thought I was going to throw up. I was thinking he was about to ask me to marry him… then he squeezed my hand and went and sat on a pew. He and Saurabh were just sitting there chatting. The moment passed and I thought I was crazy for thinking he would do it today. We hung out for about 20 minutes when I noticed this couple sitting on the cross that were acting funny. The guy kept trying to be affectionate and putting his hands in and out of his pockets. I told the guys this couple was about to get engaged. I told Saurabh to take pictures of them when he asked her because that was the nice thing to do. Note: As a photographer, I am always looking for couples getting engaged so I can capture this special moment for them.

Natraj said he would be right back and walked to the car. Saurabh and I kept watching the couple. Natraj came back and Saurabh asked if we wanted our picture taken. I was a mess from my nap, but said ok. Saurabh takes our picture and then Natraj and I turn to take in the view again. He puts his arm around me and says, “ I want to come up here forever. I want to come up here forever with you.” I tell him “that’s sweet, me too” (While thinking that was an odd comment for him to make). He then says, “you know I love you, which is why I am…” THIS WAS THE MOMENT!!!! He got down on one knee and pulled out a beautiful ring and said, “Will you marry me?”

AHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

I couldn’t say anything. I kept thinking this isn’t real. This isn’t happening. This is a joke….but there is a ring….a really pretty ring…THIS IS REALLY HAPPENING, THIS FOR REAL! THE LOVE OF MY LIFE IS ASKING ME TO MARRY HIM!!! AHHHHH!!!! Which is when I get the words to say, “it is so pretty!” He smiles and asks me if that means yes. I FORGOT TO SAY YES!!! I say “yes!” Natraj jumps up and hugs me. He looked so relieved, as if I could ever tell him no! He is my favorite person on the planet and all I’ve wanted for years is to be his wife. I am so thankful for him and how his proposal was so thoughtful.
