1 Year Wedding Anniversary | Personal

Today Natraj and I are celebrating our one-year wedding anniversary!

Our wedding day was the best day of my life. I had been planning my wedding since Pinterest started. I put in hundreds of hours planning and absolutely loved it. Other than being limited on our guest list because of our location and struggling to find my wedding dress for a bit, the planning process is the most fun I have ever had. Our wedding day was perfect in every way.  A year later and I am still in awe over how well our wedding day turned out!

Some of my favorite things about our wedding day:

– I had a white fur coat!

– We were married in a church that was over 200 years old!

– Bollywood dancing happened!

– Natraj dropped jokes in his vows!

-We were able to have a wedding that normally would have cost $20,000 for less than $10,000

– All our favorite people were present

So many truly wonderful friends and family helped make our day special and I am so thankful for them. It would not have been the incredible day that it was without them. Seriously, so many people volunteered their time and resources that I was able to have everything I wanted on my wedding day with a small budget.

Although it was January, the weather was absolutely perfect. I had prayed for a whole year the weather would be nice. See, there was no power in the church and I was afraid people would freeze or it could potentially be dark!

I had such a wonderful time getting ready with my girls in the morning. My closest friends and bridesmaids are the most wonderful women I know, and having them in one place together made me so happy. I wasn’t nervous, just bursting with joy. I will never forget my mother’s face as she put me in my wedding dress. As it was happening I just felt like it was everything I had dreamed of since I was a little girl.

My hopes and dreams were my reality.

Natraj and I decided to do a “first look” before the ceremony so that he could calm his nerves and we could get all our pictures done before the wedding.  When I tapped his shoulder and he turned around to see me…. well, I have never felt more beautiful in my whole life.  He couldn’t talk at first and almost cried. His reaction was everything I had hoped for. I know I would not have gotten such a genuine reaction during our ceremony because he would have been nervous. It was so nice just spend time with him and enjoy being together before everyone got there.

I loved walking down the aisle on the arm of my father. He is the best daddy and it meant so much that he officiated our wedding. I had dreamed my whole life that my dad would officiate my wedding. The music was phenomenal!  Christi Johnson reworked A “Thousand Years” by Christina Perri to give me a grand entrance that was PERFECT!  During the lighting of the unity candle Dustin Smerdon sang “Beautiful” by Phil Wickham and it moved me to tears. His version was much better than the original.

During our vows, my sweet husband dropped a couple of jokes making everyone laugh.  We wrote our vows and I am so glad we did. You can hear them in our video by Haley Gregg located at the bottom of this post. As a surprise, our bridal party walked out to The Office theme song and we walked out to the Friends theme song. Those are our favorite shows. All the little personal things we did on our wedding day just made it so special. It wasn’t cookie cutter. It was clearly a celebration that represented us.

A few highlights of our reception:

-How good the food was! Thank you Jeff and Kim Isbell!

– Our first dance. Natraj and I had taken lessons from Paul Hoke who is the greatest dance teacher ever, and Natraj spun me like a princess and kissed me when he dipped me at the end. It was super romantic! We loved the reaction we got from our guests.

– The speeches made by Natraj’s dad, Best Man, Maid of Honor, and my sister Rachel.

-Natraj’s parents surprised us with a necklace for me to welcome me into the family. I felt so loved!

– Our cake was the best thing I have eaten! *I am a wedding photographer…I eat a lot of wedding cake.

– The surprise Bollywood dance my friends and I did for Natraj.  Natraj’s sister choreographed the whole thing and taught it to us in three days. She is the real MVP!* See video below.

Honestly, Natraj and I felt so blessed to have all the people we love most in this world in the same place celebrating with us.  My heart is so full just thinking about it.
