Always dreamed of being a Bohemian bride? Well, today I’m featuring a guest artist, Ira Smerdon. Ira is the owner and artist of Wonderfully Made Designs. I asked Ira to give some tips on how to get that whimsical Bohemian vibe at your wedding. For contact info and to see more of her work, scroll to the end of this post.
Bohemian weddings are one of my favorite wedding themes. They can be everything and anything you want it to be, very laid back and nontraditional. Boho weddings are all about mixing and matching. Open your grandmother’s chest to find inspiration for the bridesmaid’s dresses. Go thrift and antique store shopping for eclectic wedding details. This wedding style brings non-matching elements perfectly together!
Here are some tips to help you:
1.The Bohemian wedding dress could be lace or organza, floor length, with open back or shoulders Think light and airy that flows behind you when you walk. You could complete your look with a vintage head peace, floral crown or even braid feathers in your hair. Your groom would look great in a linen suit and matching floral shirt or khakis and a white shirt.
2. Bridesmaid’s dresses can be mismatched but made with the same kind of material as the wedding dress. It is great when you take the time to consider the personalities of your bridesmaids when choosing their dresses. They can all be different, yet united in the Bohemian spirit as if they just came out of the magical gypsy folk tale.
3. For the venue, get into nature. Picnic style table arrangements will work great, low to the ground tables and tribal ornamented floor pillows will give your wedding a nomadic atmosphere and will surely make it unique and fun. Bride and groom’s table could hide under a gypsy canopy.
4. For colors, mix of earthy tones like browns, forest green, dark grays with saturated oranges, royal purples, burgundies, honey or medallion yellows would be great. If you prefer a more minimalistic color scheme, you could use white as the primary color with various hues and shades of one color.
5. Use flowy and light materials such as cotton lace, fabric ribbons; elements with tassels, feathers, and dream catchers. Use anything that you think will bring your free spirit out.
This is some great advice to get you started to create your own Boho wedding! This whimsical Bohemian styled bridal shoot was taken in the woods of Greenville SC. The dream catchers were handmade by the gorgeous model and artist herself! Ira not only gives great design advice but is a breeze to photograph as well!
